Porsche 718 Boxster & Cayman Electric: What to Expect in 2026
Auto News

Porsche is set to revolutionize its entry-level sports cars with all-electric versions of the 718 Boxster and Cayman, expected to debut in 2026 after the discontinuation of the gas-powered models worldwide. Despite the shift to battery power, Porsche assures fans that the new EVs will maintain the exhilarating performance and luxury the brand is known for.

Performance & Powertrain

The electric 718 models will be built on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE), shared with the Macan EV and Audi A6 E-Tron. While exact power figures remain unconfirmed, base models are expected to produce at least 300 horsepower, with high-performance variants surpassing 400 horsepower. Additionally, for the first time in the 718 lineup, an all-wheel-drive (AWD) option may be available, alongside the traditional rear-wheel-drive setup.

Range & Charging Capabilities

Porsche is expected to equip the electric Boxster and Cayman with technology similar to the Macan EV, which offers a range of 288-315 miles on a single charge. The 800V battery architecture will support ultra-fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in just 21 minutes using a DC fast charger.

Design & Features

Spy photos suggest that the 718 EVs will retain their signature mid-engine proportions, giving the illusion of a conventional engine placement.

The design will draw inspiration from the Taycan and Macan, featuring Porsche’s signature four-element headlights and a streamlined rear. However, unlike the Taycan, the front bumper will feature active vents and angular details, adding a unique character to the sports car.

Pricing & Availability

The electric 718 Boxster and Cayman are expected to carry a slight price increase over their gasoline predecessors. Estimates suggest a starting price of around $78,000 for the Cayman EV and $80,000 for the Boxster EV.

Porsche has confirmed that these sports cars will launch after the electric Cayenne, meaning deliveries are likely set for the 2027 model year.
