It’s becoming increasingly difficult to take seriously the constant stream of reports and YouTubers touting yet another “game-changing” EV battery breakthrough. Solid-state batteries remain the so-called holy grail of energy storage, but scaling them to commercial production has proven stubbornly elusive.

Now, CATL claims it is developing a sodium-ion battery with significantly improved energy density, promising up to 700 miles of EV range and ultra-fast charging speeds of 1200 kW. While impressive on paper, such claims warrant caution.

The Electric Viking—no stranger to spotlighting bold battery announcements—has shared the details, though whether this breakthrough lives up to the hype remains to be seen.
