Honda has revealed the new Prelude, returning to the market after a 24-year absence, with Autogefühl getting the first look. Coupés have lost much of their appeal among modern car buyers, warning automakers against investing in what could easily become a money-losing exercise.
However, Honda’s new coupé is expected to play more of a marketing role, serving as a promotional halo car, a showcase for the brand and helping attract first-time buyers.
In past decades, Baby Boomers embraced two-seater coupés and cabriolets, but as that generation has declined, so too has demand for affordable sports cars. This raises the question of how the all-new Prelude will perform in today’s market, where budget-friendly sports coupés are rare.
The new Prelude will feature Honda’s 2.0-liter e:HEV engine, producing between 184 and 200 hp. Most of its mechanical underpinnings are borrowed from the outgoing Civic Type R.
While pricing has not yet been confirmed, early estimates suggest a UK starting price of around £40,000 ($54,000) when it goes on sale in 2026.
