Car Edition - Fixing A Range Rover Evoque on its third timing belt after covering just 59,000 miles
Three Timing Chain Failures Later, Only 59,000 Miles Covered… it can only be a Land Rover

A 2017 Range Rover Evoque with a 2.0 Ingenium diesel engine came into The Car Edition workshop with a rattling noise on cold start.

Despite only 59,000 miles, it needed its third timing chain replacement — hardly surprising for a Land Rover, given the brand’s well-documented reliability issues.

In the video, Akos walks through the full timing chain replacement, highlighting the causes, symptoms, and repair process.

The same 2.0 Ingenium engine is used across several Jaguar and Land Rover models (XE, XF, F-Pace, Discovery Sport, Velar), all prone to similar problems.

Owners should watch for cold start rattles, rough running, or engine warning lights, which often indicate a failing chain. The repair costs £2,050 + VAT and takes 6–8 hours.

The video emphasises the importance of early diagnosis and choosing a reliable garage, as premature timing chain failure is becoming increasingly common in these engines.
