The BYD Sealion 5 DM-i is a competitively priced plug-in hybrid SUV designed to rival similarly sized petrol-powered models while offering lower running costs and greater efficiency. Using BYD’s DM-i Super Hybrid system, it combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor to deliver 212PS, smooth EV-like driving, and strong real-world flexibility.

Expected to become one of BYD’s best-selling UK models, the Sealion 5 DM-i launches in two trims:Comfort from £29,995 and Design from £32,995 (OTR).

Both come well equipped, featuring a 12.8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, advanced voice control, and a spacious, well-finished interior with vegan leather upholstery.

The Comfort trim offers up to 38 miles of electric-only range from a 12.96kWh battery, while the Design model increases this to 53 miles thanks to a larger 18.3kWh battery.

CO₂ emissions are as low as 48g/km, with fuel economy reaching up to 51mpg. Both models support charging via a 3.3kW onboard charger and include Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality.

BYD hopes that the roomy passenger space, 463-litre boot, strong standard equipment, and competitive pricing will attract cost-conscious buyers to the Sealion 5 DM-i.
