There is no justice in this world—truly, there isn’t—but the people have spoken: Volkswagen is the top-selling car brand in the UK for the fifth year in a row. How they get away with it? I do not know. But these are the facts, and this is the reality.
In 2025, Volkswagen UK registered 178,607 new passenger vehicles, achieving a market-leading 8.84% share—up from 8.52% in 2024—and staying well ahead of its nearest competitor.
The Golf was the brand’s top seller with 32,478 units, followed by the Tiguan with 29,857. Volkswagen’s electric models contributed over 30,000 units, a 45% increase from 2024, driven by the Government’s Electric Car Grant and Volkswagen’s ID.
Looking ahead to 2026, Volkswagen will launch the new T-Roc and debut the electric ID. Polo, ID. Polo GTI, and ID. CROSS Concept, while celebrating the 50th anniversary of the GTI with the Golf GTI EDITION 50.
