Geely EX5 Ultra: The Sensible EV That Quietly Does Everything
Auto News

The Geely EX5 Ultra has turned up in the UK like a slightly understated guest who then casually reveals they’ve run a marathon before breakfast. It’s the new range-topper in Geely’s EX5 electric SUV line-up, and on paper, it’s doing quite a lot of things very sensibly… which is both good news and mildly suspicious.

First, the important bit: range. You get a 68.39 kWh battery and up to 280 miles of WLTP range. That means you could, in theory, drive from London to somewhere properly northern without needing to stop and have an existential crisis at a motorway charger.

Performance? Also respectable. 0–62 mph in 7.6 seconds and 320 Nm of torque. So it’s not going to rearrange your internal organs, but it will absolutely embarrass a diesel crossover at the lights—which, frankly, is most of them.

Now here’s where it gets interesting. For the first time, the EX5 can tow. Yes, really. 750 kg braked, with Trailer Stability Assist. So if your idea of adventure involves a small trailer, a couple of bikes, or something vaguely muddy, this Geely won’t immediately refuse and curl up in a corner.

Inside, it’s less “bare-bones EV” and more “mobile tech showroom.” Massive screens, a heads-up display, a 16-speaker sound system, and seats that don’t just heat you—they massage you. At this point, the car is doing more for your back than most office chairs.

It even comes in a new colour called Rainforest Green, which sounds like something you’d order in a smoothie but actually suits the whole “eco-but-not-boring” vibe.

Price? £38,990 for the Ultra. Not exactly loose change, but in the current EV world, that’s dangerously close to being called “good value.” Especially when the entry-level EX5 starts just over £31k and already comes loaded with kit.

And then there’s the charging deal. Geely’s teamed up with Andersen EV to offer a home wallbox for £499 installed—which is the sort of thing that makes you briefly wonder if someone’s made a mistake in accounting.
