Adrian Newey is, by most reasonable measures, Formula 1’s greatest living technical mind — the kind of man who can look at a car and immediately see 47 ways it could go faster and 46 reasons it probably shouldn’t exist.
But here’s the question: what actually decides whether his projects end in total domination… or a very expensive engineering disappointment parked somewhere near the back of the grid?
And more importantly — which version are Aston Martin currently experiencing? The “world-beating aerodynamic genius” chapter… or the “slightly haunted wind tunnel project that never quite behaves itself” chapter?
That’s exactly what gets chewed over in the latest episode of The Undercut, with Mark Hughes and 1996 World Champion Damon Hill trying to work out whether this is the start of something special… or the beginning of a very expensive headache with carbon fibre bodywork.
Either way, it’s Formula 1. So it’ll be fast, obsessive, and almost certainly not straightforward.
