Mercedes Has Built Another AMG GT. Because Apparently We Needed One More
Auto News

Mercedes has done something nobody expected—or, if we’re honest, asked for. It’s unveiled yet another AMG GT. Not a replacement, not a clean-sheet rethink, but another sub-model to squeeze into an already crowded line-up. Somewhere in Affalterbach, there must be a wheel of buzzwords that landed on “GT” again.

Still, this one has the numbers to grab your attention. Power is up to 544hp, enough for 0-62mph in just 3.5 seconds, courtesy of an 800-volt electric platform with directly cooled cylindrical battery cells. Mercedes says the clever battery tech is designed to deliver repeatable performance, so it should keep going long after lesser EVs have started wilting.

Range is equally headline-worthy. The official WLTP figure exceeds 800 kilometres (around 500 miles), while 600kW DC charging can add more than 500 kilometres of range in just ten minutes—assuming you can actually find a charger capable of delivering that much power.

All-wheel drive, adaptive suspension and active aerodynamics promise to make the GT as comfortable crossing continents as it is carving through corners. A standard active rear spoiler and optional rear diffuser automatically adjust airflow to improve both stability and efficiency.

Then there’s perhaps the most curious feature of all. Mercedes has added an “emotional” six-cylinder driving experience at the press of a button, effectively recreating the sound and character of a petrol engine for those who can’t quite let go of internal combustion.

Sales begin in Germany on 13 August, with prices starting from €115,430. Whether the world really needed another AMG GT is debatable. Whether this one is absurdly fast, packed with technology and guaranteed to spark arguments in the comments section is not.
