The electric SUV market in China has a new contender, and the Luxeed RX is arriving with some serious ambitions. Developed by Chery and Huawei, the sporty five-seat crossover combines dramatic styling, high-performance hardware and an unusually long list of technology.

Presales in China start at 229,800 yuan, rising to 359,800 yuan depending on specification. That places the RX directly against rivals such as the Xiaomi YU7 and Voyah Passion S, giving buyers another premium electric crossover to consider.

The RX is the first Luxeed model designed by Werner Gruber, whose career has included work with Pininfarina, Ferrari and Saleen. His influence is immediately apparent. With a long bonnet, heavily sculpted rear fenders, short tail and low-slung proportions, the RX looks unlike anything else in the current Luxeed range—and has already drawn comparisons with Ferrari’s Purosangue.

Measuring 5,020mm long, the RX offers three wheel sizes up to 22 inches and incorporates ten aerodynamic elements. Inside, the futuristic theme continues with a 16.1-inch central display, an 8.88-inch passenger screen, digital instruments and a huge 26-inch head-up display. Conventional mirrors are supplemented by side-view cameras and screens integrated into the doors.

Technology is arguably the RX’s biggest selling point. Its 38 sensors and four LiDAR units support Huawei’s advanced driver-assistance system, enabling automated point-to-point driving under L2 supervision. An active suspension and body stiffness exceeding 50,000 Nm/degree are intended to give the RX both comfort and sharp handling.

Power comes from either a 371-hp rear motor or a 586-hp dual-motor setup. Battery capacities range from 81.1 to 100.42kWh, with claimed range reaching 852km.

For Luxeed, the RX represents more than another model. It is a bold attempt to challenge China’s fastest-moving electric SUV brands—and a striking demonstration of what Chery and Huawei can create together.
