BRABUS Builds A 900HP G-Class With No Roof
Auto News

There are sensible ways to make a convertible. You could start with a sports car, perhaps. BRABUS has instead looked at the Mercedes-AMG G 63 and decided that what this 2.5-tonne box really needs is 900 horsepower and a roof that folds away.

Welcome to the BRABUS 900 ROCKET EDITION CABRIO.

Limited to just 50 examples, this extraordinary G-Class has been subjected to the full Bottrop treatment. More than 500 new components were developed for its two-piece electric soft-top, while extensive structural reinforcement keeps the open-bodied monster suitably rigid.

The roof takes just 20 seconds to disappear, presumably giving the occupants enough time to reconsider their life choices.

Under the Powerdome sits BRABUS’s 4.5-litre twin-turbo V8, producing a frankly ridiculous 900hp and 1,250Nm. Zero to 100km/h takes just 3.7 seconds, while top speed is electronically restricted to 240km/h.

Then there are the 24-inch forged wheels, exposed carbon fibre, illuminated grille, red detailing and an interior swathed in leather and Alcantara. It is subtle in roughly the same way a fireworks factory is subtle.

That’s probably sensible, given the enormous 345-section rear tyres and the considerable amount of atmosphere being asked to move around the vehicle.

The price? The example shown carries an export price of €890,740 before German VAT. For that money, you could buy something considerably less absurd.

Which is precisely why someone will.
