McLaren’s Artura plug-in hybrid supercar could leave production in 2028 as the British manufacturer prepares to expand its product portfolio under new ownership.

According to a report from industry reports, citing a source briefed on McLaren’s product strategy, the Artura could have a relatively short production run. McLaren has declined to comment on the reported plans, but has confirmed broader ambitions to enter new vehicle categories by 2030.

The company is developing a four-door model alongside a new V6-powered hybrid supercar, reportedly known as the P34.

The new model is expected to be unveiled in 2027 for the 2028 model year and could become McLaren’s entry-level offering if the Artura is discontinued.

Introduced in 2021 and launched with customers in 2022, the Artura was an important technology programme for McLaren. It introduced a new carbon-fibre architecture and plug-in hybrid powertrain, combining a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 with electric assistance.

Following powertrain and software updates, the Artura produces a combined 690 hp and 720 Nm, with a claimed 0–60 mph time of three seconds and a top speed of 205 mph.

McLaren has also expanded the range with the Artura Spider and made revisions aimed at improving performance and usability.

However, sales have reportedly remained limited. US registrations totalled 510 units in 2025, while deliveries declined by 18% during the first half of 2026.

The potential replacement, the P34, is expected to produce around 810 hp and 1,085 Nm. Its precise position within McLaren’s future line-up remains unclear, leaving the Artura’s eventual successor yet to be confirmed.
