Mercedes AMG GT Black Series - Prototype test
What Is Mercedes Cooking?A New AMG GT Black Series
Auto News

Mercedes-AMG is building another Black Series, which means someone, somewhere, has decided that the ordinary AMG GT is simply not frightening enough.

Fresh spy shots show the new GT Black Series wrapped in enough camouflage to make it look like a prototype wearing a duvet. But Mercedes has forgotten one important rule of disguise: you can’t hide a gigantic wing.

And what a wing it is.

At the front, there’s a relatively small grille, extra aerodynamic trickery and a bonnet featuring a central air scoop. There are also little winglets that appear to be part of an active-aero system, currently sitting proudly open as if the car is already preparing for take-off.

Down the sides are enormous air channels, while the rear gets even more ridiculous. There’s a massive fixed spoiler, an enormous diffuser and a mesh structure that looks like the engineers have been experimenting with airflow using a very expensive wind tunnel.

Mercedes hasn’t confirmed the engine yet, but a flat-plane-crank V8 is expected. And it will apparently need to beat the previous GT Black Series, which produced 720bhp and 590lb-ft.

So expect more power, more aero and considerably less concern for subtlety.

In other words, exactly what a Black Series should be.
