Cadillac’s Formula 1 honeymoon could be over before it’s even properly begun. Reports suggest the American team is considering dropping Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas for 2027, potentially tearing up both contracts as it looks to turn its struggling debut campaign around.
On paper, Perez and Bottas looked like the perfect safe pair of hands. Between them, they brought years of experience from Red Bull and Mercedes, along with race wins and plenty of hard-earned F1 know-how. On track, though, the results have been decidedly less impressive.
Following the Singapore Grand Prix, Cadillac remains the only team on the grid without a championship point. Perez came agonisingly close in Monaco, only to have a 10-second penalty turn a 10th-place finish into 15th. Bottas has managed a best result of 13th in China, hardly the stuff of a fairy-tale debut.

According to Swiss publication Blick, Cadillac is now reconsidering its plans to keep both drivers, despite their reported multi-year deals. Paying them off could be an expensive business, but apparently even that is on the table.
Enter Esteban Ocon. With Haas reportedly unwilling to retain the Frenchman for 2027, he could emerge as a candidate for a Cadillac seat. Team boss Marcin Budkowski also knows Ocon from their time together at Renault.
Nothing has been confirmed, but Cadillac clearly has some serious thinking to do. Two experienced drivers were supposed to provide stability. Instead, with the points table still reading zero, the team may be wondering whether a clean break is exactly what it needs.
For Perez and Bottas, the message is clear: experience counts for plenty, but in F1, results still pay the bills.
