Britain’s pick-up market is about to get another contender, and this one comes from Foton, China’s commercial vehicle giant. The Tunland is expected to arrive in the UK in early 2027, promising to combine traditional workhorse toughness with the sort of creature comforts that make a long motorway slog slightly less soul-destroying.

Under its imposing front grille sits a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine, assisted by a 48V mild-hybrid system and paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. No plug-in charging ritual required, then – just diesel practicality with a little electrical assistance.

The Tunland’s double-cab body offers seating for five and a useful load bed, making it equally suited to shifting equipment, ferrying the family or escaping civilisation at the weekend.

A multi-link rear suspension setup also promises a more composed ride, particularly when the load bed is empty – traditionally the point at which some pick-ups begin impersonating agricultural machinery.

Inside, Foton has clearly aimed beyond the bare-bones utility vehicle. Expect digital instruments, a large central touchscreen, automatic climate control, wireless smartphone charging and soft-touch interior materials.

There’s even a panoramic roof, because apparently hauling heavy things no longer means abandoning the finer things in life.

Foton says its international partnerships have helped shape the Tunland, positioning it as more than another unfamiliar badge entering Britain’s crowded commercial vehicle market.

Prices, final UK specifications and dealer details remain under wraps. But with its combination of diesel muscle, mild-hybrid technology and everyday comfort, the Tunland could give established pick-up favourites something to think about.
