Hennessey 265mph Convertible Speed Record Is Awesome & Pointless
Video

Hennessey has made it’s name by creating ethereal hypercars which are all about extreme tuning, extreme performance, massive speed and done with an all American flag waving Yankee-Doodle Dandy spirit. And they have hit the headlines again with a the convertible version of the Venom GT Spyder which recorded a top speed of 265.5mph.

That’s a record for a open top/convertible car. The Venom GT Spyder was able to do such massive speeds thanks to its 1,451bhp and 1,744Nm of torque.

Rather predictably straight-line performance is rapid, 0-62mph in under 2.4 seconds and the ability to reach 0-200mph in 13 seconds.

The record was set at the US Navy’s 2.9-mile long runway in California and beats the previous record holder. The Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse.

Only 3 units of the Venom GT Spyder World Record Edition will be made and each will cost over $1.3 million.

But we say as impressive as those figures are in the real world, on real roads, having a car with so much power is awesome and pointless because you will never be able to use all of it all of the time.

But we do like the ‘optics’ of the star-spangled banner being held aloft by the driver of the Venom GT Spyder, it does look spectacular like Hennessey have set foot on the moon.
