Polestar has delayed its planned Polestar 6 convertible sports car as the Swedish automaker struggles with sales and finances. Instead, resources will go toward the Polestar 7 compact SUV and the next-generation Polestar 2, which CEO Michael Lohscheller says are more likely to drive volume and reduce pricing.
The Polestar 2 remains the brand’s best-selling model, and a second-generation version is a top priority. The upcoming Polestar 7, aimed at widening the company’s audience beyond male, performance-focused buyers, will feature a distinct design while retaining the brand’s performance DNA.
The Polestar 6 has not been cancelled but will arrive later on a new platform shared with the Polestar 5. Originally revealed in 2022, with a concept shown at Goodwood in 2024, the 6 had been expected to launch in 2026.
Despite its challenges, Polestar is growing: it sold 30,319 vehicles in the first half of 2025, up from 20,047 in the same period of 2024. The current lineup includes the Polestar 2 sedan, Polestar 3 SUV, and Polestar 4 liftback.
