Performance sedans that get your petrol-filled heart pumping are pretty hard to come by these days. However, there are notable exceptions that offer power, elegance and value. From the renowned BMW M5 to earlier model Lexus models from 10 years ago, here are some ideas.
Your Primary Considerations
There are many high-spec sedans out there, and it’s easy to get excited with rose-tinted glasses or even be duped into buying a lemon under the bonnet. Finding used luxury cars is almost an art form, and you lose out if you aren’t careful.
So, make some considerations first. Ask for crucial maintenance and service records before even thinking about handing over some cash. Also, be aware of any modifications made to the car, and have a mechanic inspect it for you.
Older BMW M5 Variants
BMW has a manufacturing pedigree that is hard to beat. Originally a motorcycle company, BMW produced their first vehicle design in 1932 with the BMW 3/20. Since then, we have had classic designs like the 328, 8 Series cars and of course, the M5.
The BMW M5, especially the F10 generation, is like no other. For raw power with a 575-horsepower engine that does 0 to 60 in 3.7 seconds, combined with style and luxury, you can’t go wrong with an older BMW M5.
2009 to 2015 Cadillac CTS-V Performance Sedans
While the Cadillac emblem has been redesigned over 30 times, the brand has stayed synonymous with a special blend of luxury and performance. There are notable exceptions like the Cadillac Cimarron, but like Fight Club, we don’t talk about that!

Now, if you are looking for a sedan with over 550 horsepower, with a supercharged 6.2-litre V8, and all for under £30,000, you can’t go wrong with any Cadillac CTS-V model produced between 2009 and 2015.
Mid-Teens Lexus IS F Models
As a branch of Toyota, Lexus is known for innovation and engineering when it comes to comfort, technology and style. Combined with the classic Toyota reliability, you can also expect some pretty hefty numbers under the bonnet.

Lexus IS F models from 2008 to 2014 offer the kinds of stats so invigorating you can smell the oil! A naturally-aspirated 5.0 litre V8 offering a whopping 416 horsepower for under £30,000 is pretty much a steal by most petrolhead standards.
Early Generation Chrysler 300C SRT8
When it was first released in 2005, the Chrysler 300C was bold, arrogant and different. At a fraction of the price, you get the same room as a Rolls-Royce! Of course, there are power differences, as a Rolls Phantom comes with a twin-turbocharged V12.

However, at a mere £20 to 30,000, the 300C SRT8’s 6.4 litre V8 engine is nothing to be snarled at. Also, while not as refined as some German competitors in the same range, you do get much better fuel economy.
Summary
There are some considerations to make when looking for performance sedans on a budget, such as service history and mods. However, there are some models that you should look for in particular, such as any 2009 to 2015 Cadillac CTS-V and earlier Chrysler 300C SRT8 models.
