Engineering Explained, the popular YouTube channel, ditched its Tesla Model 3 over concerns about Elon Musk’s embrace of fascism and went straight for a Lucid Air. It’s an expensive upgrade—the Lucid Air starts at $70,000, and Engineering Explained spent $84K.

The Lucid Air is known for having one of the most efficient EV powertrains in the industry, designed by a former Tesla engineer who oversaw the original Model S.

However, Engineering Explained started noticing small issues that should have been caught during quality control. Over time, these minor problems became increasingly frustrating.

The biggest problem, though, was the software experience—or rather, the lack of integration. After posting his first video detailing multiple issues, Lucid watched, listened, and responded.

Lucid plans to roll out significant upgrades in 2026, including UX 3.0, a complete redesign of its user interface, and Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) charging.

The latter upgrade will allow the Lucid Air to function as a backup power source for a home. The upgrades aim to enhance the driving experience and expand the EV’s utility beyond the road.
