Even the Chinese media have pointed out the exterior design similarities between the Xpeng GX and the Range Rover—a rare observation, to say the least. In my opinion, the only real similarity is the wheels, which are round, like all wheels.
But what exactly is the Xpeng GX, and why is it far superior to a Range Rover? The simple answer: it isn’t a Range Rover. Xpeng uses modern gigafactory production methods, meaning the GX is built to higher, more consistent standards.
The only real area where the GX might differ from the Range Rover is in luxury. However, based on our experience, Xpeng already delivers high-quality interiors, and I am confident that their move into luxury finishes will more than match anything coming from Land Rover.
OK, so what is the Xpeng GX about? here’s what you need to know. This is Xpeng’s first full-size crossover, and it’s not shy about making a statement. At 5.3 meters long with a 3,115 mm wheelbase, six seats in a 2+2+2 layout, and split tailgate, it’s big, bold, and unmistakably modern.

Retractable door handles, blacked-out pillars, and two-storey headlights give it a look that’s hard to ignore—yes, it might remind you of a Range Rover, but that’s where the similarity ends.
Power to Impress
The GX comes in BEV and EREV flavours. The electric AWD variant packs 430 kW (577 hp) across two motors, while the RWD version manages a still-respectable 362 hp. The EREV is clever: a tiny 1.5-liter turbo engine doesn’t drive the wheels—it charges the battery, which powers two electric motors for 496 hp and up to 320 km of electric range. Top speed? A sensible 200 km/h across the board.
Brains Over Brawn
This isn’t just a brute. The GX EREV boasts four Turing AI chips, delivering 3,000 TOPS, and is L4-ready for autonomous driving. In other words, it’s basically a crossover with a supercomputer under the bonnet.
On the Market
Expect the Xpeng GX to land in China later this year, priced between 400,000–500,000 yuan ($57k–$72k). Sleek, tech-laden, and with enough presence to make any Range Rover owner look twice—Xpeng is here to prove size, brains, and style can all coexist.
