For The Track: Ferrari Unveils the 296 GT Modificata
Auto News

Ferrari has unveiled the new 296 GT Modificata, an extreme track-only model derived from the 296 GT3 Evo and designed exclusively for non-competitive circuit driving.

Presented digitally during Ferrari Racing Days in Budapest, the limited-production two-seater will form part of the Italian marque’s exclusive Club Competizioni GT programme.

At its heart is a 2,992cc, 120-degree twin-turbocharged V6 producing an impressive 730 cv (537 kW) at 7,500 rpm. That is 130 cv more than the 296 GT3 Evo, whose output is restricted by Balance of Performance regulations.

Ferrari claims the Modificata can lap its Fiorano test circuit around three seconds faster than the racing version.

The additional performance is supported by extensive aerodynamic revisions. At the front, a new slotted splitter improves airflow beneath the car, while a redesigned bonnet enhances cooling.

At the rear, an entirely new wing incorporates a single central pylon, structural endplates inspired by the 499P and a larger 5mm Gurney flap, increasing downforce while maintaining aerodynamic balance.

Ferrari has also upgraded the braking system with new front steel discs, improved ventilation and additional cooling airflow.

A revised six-speed sequential gearbox with new ratios and a carbon clutch has been developed specifically around the engine’s increased performance.

Unlike a conventional GT race car, the 296 GT Modificata features two seats, allowing owners to share the experience with a passenger or work alongside a professional driving coach.

Advanced data acquisition, video recording, tyre monitoring and other racing equipment come as standard.

The purchase includes two years, or 12 rounds, of Ferrari’s Club Competizioni GT programme.

The 2027 calendar includes circuits such as Spa-Francorchamps, Fuji, Indianapolis and Jerez, giving owners the opportunity to exploit the Modificata’s extraordinary performance in a dedicated Ferrari environment.
