EV Sales Soar Across Europe As BEVs Take 32.6% Market Share
Industry News

Battery-electric vehicle (BEV) registrations across 17 key European markets surged 70.3 per cent in September, reaching 300,202 vehicles as high oil prices, government subsidies and a growing choice of affordable models boosted demand.

According to data from E-Mobility Europe, New Automotive and Fier Automotive, fully electric cars accounted for 32.6 per cent of registrations during the month.

The strong performance lifted year-to-date BEV registrations to 1.98 million, up 38.1 per cent compared with the same period in 2025.

Germany led the market by volume, recording 88,724 registrations and a 34.6 per cent market share. France followed with 65,243 vehicles, giving BEVs a 41.7 per cent share of its market.

The Nordic countries continued to lead Europe’s electrification drive. Norway recorded the highest BEV market share at 98.8 per cent, followed by Denmark at 88.8 per cent, Finland at 62.7 per cent and Sweden at 49 per cent.

Electric cars also accounted for around half of registrations in Ireland, Portugal, Belgium and the Netherlands.

However, adoption remained considerably lower in parts of central and southern Europe. The Czech Republic recorded an 11.2 per cent market share, while Italy reached 7.6 per cent and Poland just 6.2 per cent.

The figures emerge as France and Germany push for a softer approach to proposed EU vehicle emissions rules, highlighting the continuing debate over Europe’s transition to electric mobility.
