The New Bentley “Elephant In The Room” Mulsanne Speed
Auto News

If you are rich then it probably means you live a faster lifestyle by virtue of the fact that you have an insane amount of money at your disposal. Money, as the old saying goes, speaks. It can buy you a degree from Harvard or Oxford University, (not Cambridge) or it can buy you a constant supply of web traffic in the 1,00s of 1,000s of unique visitors.

But which ever black hat you wear money also buys you faster privileges, quite literally in the case of the new Bentley Mulsanne Speed.

In truth the Bentley Mulsanne Speed isn’t new, but being British its our patriotic duty to not burn bridges or spit at the hand that feeds us, or in many cases slaps us down but never feeds us.

In reality the Bentley Mulsanne Speed is an upgraded version of the standard Mulsanne, with a peppering of Muliner trim thrown in but with some extra ommph, a lot more ommph.

The engineers at Bentley have taken the standard 6.75-litre, V8 twin turbo engine and fitted new injectors, a new combustion chamber, new spark plugs and revised the engine map settings which all combines to cough out 530bhp, an increase of 25bhp.

Rather bizarrely Bentley are also claiming an improvement in fuel economy, we won’t entertain the super rich by insulting them with the actual figures. The Bentley Mulsanne Speed will cost in the region of £300k, surely fuel to these high net worth buyers is like buying a can Coca Cola to “normal” people.

The 8 speed gearbox has been re-calibrated which enables the Mulsanne Speed to power from 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds thanks to a mahoosive 1,100Nm of torque, that enables the sprint time to be reduced by four tenths over the standard Mulsanne and the speed is 6mph higher at 190mph.

The Bentley receives a light a materials make over, on the inside and out, just look at the images need we say more?. Luxury doesn’t get any better than this, are you listening Mercedes S Class owners?

A new programmable sports suspension and steering completes what Bentley say is a “tailored experience”, but a car weighing nearly 3 tonnes isn’t going to handle like “a car on rails”.

To it put into perspective the average weight of an Asian elephant is around 2.7 tonnes. Okay its between 2.7 and 4.5 tonnes.

The Bentley Mulsanne Speed will debut at the Paris Motorshow on October 2nd and will go on sale thereafter with first deliveries expected to reach UK customers by the end of the year.
