With the Tokyo Motorshow in full swing, (an event we were invited to but had to decline because were invited to another important event which clashed) you can be sure there will be new car releases, never before seen technology and shiny new concepts. And we reckon Mazda probably stole the Tokyo Motorshow (an event we were invited to but had to decline because were invited to another important event) with their stunning RX-Vision Concept. Here the word ‘vision’ clearly is the most important part of this good news story. We know concepts are designed to generate publicity, automotive PR people call it a ‘publicity stunt’. A publicity stunt means “hey, look at me I am Mazda and this is what I can do, we call it a showstopper”.  Whatever Mazda’s intentions the Vision-RX concept has certainly stolen the the Tokyo Motorshow (an event we were invited to but had to decline because were invited to another important event). But it will never be made. As we always say elements of the concept will be used, perhaps the headlight design or even the Hofmiester inspired rear window kink. Mazda say the Vision-RX is a classic front-engine, rear wheel drive concept and represents a “vision” of the future that could only come from Mazda”. The Vision-RX is powered by a next-generation SKYACTIV-R rotary engine. The last rotory powered sports car Mazda offered was the late RX-7 which ceased production in 2002. The Vision-RX concept was really designed to highlight Mazda’s low emissions SKYACTIV-R technology, lets hope Mazda doesn’t do a VW style “defeat device”… Or do they? So that’s why the Vision-RX lacks vision, because it will never be made, its a show stopper designed to plug the company’s low emissions technology. When will these auto companies ever learn? eh!?? Give the people hope, and give them what they want.
