The Force Awakens With The Jaguar F-Type SVR AWD
Auto News

This may look like a Jaguar F-Type with aerodynamic tweaks but this is no ordinary F-Type, its the F-Type SVR. Available as a Coupe or Convertible this is what Jaguar are calling the “all weather supercar” that’s 4-wheel drive to you and I. It’s been developed by the company’s Special Vehicle Operations unit which is kind of like the SAS of the automotive world.

The Supercharged 5.0-litre V8 has been uprated from the F-Type R to develop 575bhp and 700Nm of torque. Thats a 25bhp increase.

Naturally, power is fed to all four wheels and of course will come with variable torque distribution. Power is slightly biased towards the rear or to the front, whichever the CPU deems most appropriate.

And all that power is accessed via an 8-speed auto shifter, no manual gearbox is available. Acceleration from 0-60mph takes just 3.5 seconds, with a top speed of 200mph for the Coupé.

For a car capable of 200mph Jaguar has included an enhanced aerodynamics package. A front bumper and splitter, flat underfloor, carbon fibre active rear wing and rear venturi reduces lift and drag at high speed.

The F-Type SVR also gets an uprated chassis featuring new dampers and anti-roll bars, wider tyres, lightweight 20-inch forged wheels and new, stiffer rear knuckles. In other words the ride and handling have been tweaked.

The F-Type’s biggest asset is the sound of the V8 at full hilt but the F-Type SVR will sound even better. A Titanium and Inconel exhaust system is designed to deliver an unequalled and harder-edged sound – and a 16kg weight saving to boot.

Jaguar say the F-Type SVR has a weight reduction of 25kg which can be improved to 50kg if you go for the optional CCM brake system, carbon fibre roof panel and carbon fibre pack.

But you might have to save up the pennies, pounds, dollars, rubles or dirhams. The Coupe F-Type SVR will cost you £110,000 and £115,485 for the Convertible.

Both examples are ready to order right now with customer deliveries expected by summer 2016.
