Toyota Considering Buying Boston Dynamics From Google

Toyota is said to be in talks with Massachusetts based advanced robotics specialists Boston Dynamics. Boston Dynamics was originally founded by MIT in 1992 and was later spun off into a private company to eventually be acquired by Google for $500m in 2013.  Boston Dynamics have developed terrifyingly capable anthropomorphic robots that are literally one step into the future. Google is also said to be in talks with Amazon however it is believed that Toyota is closer to negotiating a deal to fully acquire the company’s technology assets. Toyota plans to integrate Boston Dynamics into its Toyota Research Institute with the specific aim to develop advanced robotics and AI. Google is reportedly wanting to sell Boston Dynamics because it doesn’t see a profitable return being made anytime soon. Boston Dynamics has been funded by Military research grants, Google wanted to bring to market affordable robotics for the masses most probably toys or a commercial robot for the home. But this not the Boston Dynamic way and the two cultures are said to have clashed over the future direction of of the company. Boston Dynamics is all about creating cutting edge robotic technology and it’s focus is more long term than Googles short term approach. Interestingly Google doesn’t want to get out of the advanced robotics scene altogether because many of the Boston Dynamics engineers will remain at Google.
