Land Rover Reveal Supersized Discovery Sport, The New Discovery
Auto News
So it’s finally here the all new Land Rover Discovery, looking like a bigger version of the Discovery Sport we can’t help but be a little bit disappointed with the looks because we felt the Discovery Mk 3 hadn’t aged a day since it was launched back in 2004. Maybe the Discovery 5 should have been an evolution, however Land Rover have gone for a full blown revolution. The new look Discovery still retains the three row, seven seat and stepped roof configuration, however the stepped roof is more subtle whereas before it was a visual identity that separated the Discovery from the rest of the Land Rover clan. Nevertheless the Land Rover marketing and PR division haven’t been short on selling the new Discovery’s key attributes, it still has that go anywhere Physics will allow mentality. However it’s more premium, more comfortable and more efficient than before. Most of the increased efficiency is down to a 480kg weight saving due in part to the use of a new lightweight aluminium construction. As a result Land Rover claim improved fuel consumption of up to 43mpg for the entry level 2.0-litre SD4, the old V6 Turbo diesel could barley manage 28mpg. But we must point out many auto manufactures simply lie about fuel consumption figures which are usually derived from lab based data research and we know what car manufactures can do with manipulated lab tests… manipulate these stats further still. The UK market will have access to Land Rover’s home brand, entry level 2.0-litre Ingenium turbo diesel. The SD4 will output 235bhp. If that’s not good enough then the V6 Td6, 256bhp turbodiesel will also be available. What if you don’t like diesel? Well Land Rover have thought of everything thanks to a 340bhp supercharged V6 petrol powerplant which is really designed to appease overseas sales territories like the US and China. The new Discovery will come with all the technology a proper off-roader needs, a full-bloodied 4×4 system with Hill Descent Control, Gradient Release Control, Roll Stability Control, Wade Sensing, Electronic Traction Control, Hitch Assist, Trailer Stability Assist plus an Electrically Deployable Towbar and an industry-first Nose Load Measurement system. What ever that is. And of course the latest in-car infotainment system which includes a 10-inch touchscreen that reduces the number of switches by 30 percent and Andorid and iOS connectivity. You will also optional 9 USB sockets, 3G wifi and a kick-ass sound system. and many more toys and creature comforts besides. So how much will the all new Land Rover Discovery cost? in the UK the entry level 2.0-litre SD4 will start at £43k and rise accordingly the higher up the trim level you go… obviously. The new Discovery will go on sale next spring, 2017. And yes we did deliberately elect to use the banner image.  land-rover-discovery-2016
