Why the British middle classes have this thing about visiting and or living in France we just don’t know. It’s as if the French are the height of western civilisation but just take a look at what they did in occupied Algiers, it makes ISIS look like angels. Go back many, many centuries and the Romans looked upon the French as barbarians. To be fair Roman historians did do a lot of self promotion that makes Donald Trump look like an amateur. The British admire the French because, lets face it, they invaded England in the 11th Century. Norman conquest that sort of thing. Maybe just maybe that’s why modern day Britain has this love/hate affair with the French, it’s a kind of sub-conscious-historical link to our onion eating ancestors. However the Normans were not pure French, they were originally from the North. They were Vikings looking for new lands to conquer. These Vikings stumbled upon a region of France and liked it so much that the Gallo-Frankish rulers of the era literally handed over lands to their tormentors in order to stop bloodshed. The Vikings were dubbed the “men from the north” or the Normans. And so over a few hundred centuries the Vikings turned their patch of land into the Normandy we know today. So what the hell does this have to do with the Bugatti Veyron and McLaren F1 we hear you say? Nothing at all we’re just filling column space. Anyway the Veyron and McLaren F1 need no introduction. Both are separated by 13 years from point of first production. Both cars were game changers in their respective eras. But the McLaren F1 can still mix it with the very best on offer today except maybe the latest breed of hybrid supercars such as the McLaren P1 and Ferrari La Ferrari. Unfortunately this so called “Clash of the Titans” video isn’t a head to head, nor is it a “which is the fastest around the track” comparison. What this video is all about is nice cinematography and two boring motoring journalists trying trying their very hardest to win awards for being the most boring motoring hack on the planet.
