The Mercedes Project One Hypercar Spells The End of The V12 Blueprint
Auto News
Hypercars are changing, gone are the days when a big thirsty V12 was the standard, traditional fare for the supercar/hypercar blueprint. Emissions regulations have forced manufactures to re-think and while strong willed regulation has it’s downsides it forces engineers and designers to think outside of the normal conventions. So regulations are actually a good thing because without them automotive engineers and designers would still be doing the same V12… thing. There is a downside, we will no longer be able to hear a V12 sing at full pelt, the V12 supercar will go the way of Concorde, just another museum piece to gawp at. Mercedes have started work on their newest hypercar. Bound by regulations Project One at it is codenamed will be designed to work around these emissions regulations. Indeed Project One will mirror Mercedes’ F1 wining formula. The engine is taken from their F1 car, a high revving, 1.6-litre turbocharged V6 Hybrid. Project One is said to  generate 1,000bhp and will be limited to a production run of around 300 units with each one costing a rumoured $2.5 million dollars each. Project one is expected to be launched in the second half of 2017.  mercedes-project-one-hypercar
