Audi R8 Production Will Cease After Current Production Run… Damn!
Auto News
Everything on this planet and therefore you and I have a start and an end point, this is the way of our species, part of our lifecycle is based on the joy of life and the sorrow of a life just ended. And so it seems the same principles apply to inanimate man-made objects such as the Audi R8 which is reportedly being phased out of production when the current second generation’s product life-cycle comes to an end. The R8 first entered production in 2006, sales peaked in 2008 at over 5,000 units but have been declining slightly ever since. When a car manufacturer discontinues a model, any model, it is due to poor sales performance and not necessarily due to poor product development. The R8 is assembled at a purpose-built factory by a team of 70 workers who fit 5,000 parts by hand, the maximum production target is between eight and fifteen cars per day. The R8 was originally available with a V8, but is now only available with a 5.2-litre V10, having driven both the V8 and V10 powered R8 I can say the latter is the more raucous of the two. In addition, Audi is planning a move away from large capacity V-powered cars, so while the R8 will be phased out don’t be surprised to see an electric supercar being phased in, perhaps called the E-8. Meanwhile, don’t be surprised to see hardcore special editions over the next few years. Audi is also rumored to be working on a 2.9-litre V6 twin Turbo powered version of the current R8.  Audi-R8-Production-To-End-In-2020-Dailycarblog
