The Audi SQ8 Will Deliver You From Evil, From America’s Bible Belt, From Pretty Much Anywhere
Auto News

If the Audi Q8 was just too tame for you then behold the Audi SQ8 the all singing all dancing performance version of the said Q8. And it really does perform because it’s designed to perform courtesy of a mild-hybrid, bi-turbo V8 diesel. The 4.0-litre V8 TDI delivers 430bhp and 900 Nm (663.8 lb-ft) of torque between 1,250 and 3,250 rpm. Acceleration from rest to 62mph requires just 4.8 seconds, top speed is electronically limited to 155mph.

The 48V mild hybrid system comprises of a compact lithium-ion battery and a belt alternator starter which is connected to the crankshaft. This mild hybrid system allows up to 8 kW of recuperation power to be generated during deceleration and can feed this energy into the battery. Audi says MHEV technology reduces consumption by up to 0.5 litres per 100 kilometers.

Active roll stabilisation, all-wheel steering and a sport differential will be offered for the Vorsprung version. But of particular interest is how Audi has improved the low-speed and mid-speed driveability. An electrically powered compressor (EPC) assists the turbochargers when starting off and when accelerating at low engine speeds.

The Audi SQ8 will be available in two model trims, SQ8 TDI and SQ8 TDI Vorsprung. The interior trim levels are taken from Audi’s S-Line categories and boosted with the addition of equipment that would otherwise be optional extras.

Audi says the electronic compressor ensures consistently strong power delivery and excellent overtaking capability.

Standard equipment is insanely high and includes HD Matrix LED headlights in addition to a full suite of the latest driver assist technologies. The interior is primarily finished in black, with diamond stitched black Valcona leather upholstery. The seats, the front centre armrest and the door armrests can be trimmed in rotor grey or Arras red as an option.

Depending on the upholstery choice, the seats feature either rock grey or anthracite contrast stitching. Inlays are aluminium in the SQ8 TDI and carbon in the SQ8 TDI Vorsprung, with the option to switch to carbon or choose an oak grey finish as an alternative in the ‘standard’ car.

Illuminated door sill trims with aluminium inlays and the S logo at the front are part of the standard equipment, as are the stainless steel pedals and footrest.

The Audi SQ8 and SQ8 Vorsprung will be available in the UK from July.
