We love Lotus, they make great cars, the best performance cars in the world. However the new Lotus Evora GT410, isn’t new, it’s simply revised fixtures and fittings, largely to the interior. The performance of the Evora GT410 is based on the GT410 Sport, the 3.5-litre Toyota sourced V6 is good for 410bhp, 410 Nm, (302 ft-lb) torque, 186mph, 0-62 in 4.1 seconds. The Evora GT410 is kind-of an entry-level car and costs £3,000 less than the GT410 Sport. It’s confusing but it makes sense to Lotus.

Upgrades include a body-colored roof, side sills, tailgate, front access panel and mirror backs, red AP Racing brake calipers and silver or gloss black V-spoke cast alloy wheels, 19-inch at the front and 20-inch at the rear. Interior equipment includes cruise control, heated seats, rear parking sensors.

Standard specification has also been revised; upgrades include the integration of Sparco sport seats, air-con, and a premium infotainment system including DAB digital radio, sat-nav and Apple CarPlay.

The Lotus Evora GT410 has a UK asking price of £82,900 (€99,900 in Germany), the GT410 is £3,000 less than the GT410 Sport (€11,000 less in Germany). Sounds all good so far, doesn’t it. And the Evora is a fantastic, head-turning car to drive.

However the Evora is ten 10 years old now, doesn’t look it, but 10 years in car terms is similar to dog years. Technology has moved on, the Evora hasn’t. The Evora GT410 almost identical in price to the entry-level Porsche 911. The GT410 is slightly more powerful and weighs around 200kg less. But the current-gen Porsche 911 even in standard trim is simply superior.

Lotus claims a new car is due to be launched in 2020, but have not made it clear if it’s the Evora or Elise replacement. But whatever it is, it needs to arrive very soon.
