The Volvo Polestar Precept Will Become A Virtually Unchanged Production Reality
Auto News

Polestar, the electric sub-brand of Volvo, is on a mission from god, on a mission to deliver the all-electric Polestar Precept Concept virtually unchanged as soon as production begins, in about three years time. Curiously Polestar decided to make the Precept a production reality after receiving a positive public reaction. Many modern business decisions are driven by data and analysis. The actual creativity that you see, experience, and eventually buy, is just a small part of the overall business case for new product development. Polestar gave no data to justify what public demand led them to take the decision to invest in Precept production.

In all likelihood, the decision was made years ago, not on the fly as it appears to be. But making a sudden announcement generates headlines and news headlines is free advertising and marketing. Nevertheless, the Precept is a stunning car in a world where SUV’s are in demand and saloon/sedan cars are in a slow decline. In a recent media interview, the boss of Polestar revealed, more or less, that Precept production was given the go-ahead after positive public reaction to the concept.

Polestar boss Thomas Ingenlath:

“After we revealed the Precept, we read the articles on it and had people seeing it, and we got the conviction that the design was something people liked and that it could be a real hit. The question is always ‘how do you make it work’? What will it take technology- wise and investment-wise?

“This isn’t fake: it was built as a show car, but our engineers have done the research and found ways to construct it and do it. It’s an ambitious project, but we wanted to make it our next big project.”

The Precept pure electric saloon/sedan will become Polestar’s flagship, and almost certainly most luxurious model. The car will be similar in size to a Porsche Panamera and will use sustainable materials throughout. Technical details were not revealed, however, a flagship electric Polestar saloon will be aiming for Tesla Model S performance for sure.
