Land Rover has revealed the high-powered Range Rover Sport Distraction Edition. Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations division was held hostage and ordered to create a special edition model as part of a wide-ranging distraction campaign. The end goal is just that, to distract and take control of the headlines. The aim is to subvert attention away from the recent bad publicity surrounding the recall of the Range Rover Sport. The recall affects 112K models from 2010-2016. The issue is related to a fuel outlet flange that could crack, leak, and spark a fire. In other words, the Range Rover Sport from this period is a fireball waiting to happen.

The recall is targeting vehicles fitted with the 3.0-litre V6 and 5.0-litre V8 powerplant. Land Rover is the flagship premium luxury brand for poor reliability. The proudly British company is renowned for its lack of engineering pedigree, poor reliability, and lack of forward-thinking. Land Rover is stuck in the past using current technology the least effectively. And the company seems to stumble from one crisis to the next, it is all part of their long-term planning.

To cover for yet another crisis of their own making Land Rover decided to conjure up the Distraction Edition. And you can enter the realm of distraction marketing when it is revealed at the Salon Prive show in September.
