After McLarengate, is Autocar Becoming A Fake News Clickbaiter?
Jeremiah Clarkson

Fake news, ohhh… fake news. Well… that was rather odd… the Autocar got themselves into a bit of a pickle, a bit of a palava the other week about a story. And it was a made-up story with as many facts as trying to thread a needle with a bullet. Autocar told the world about a deal of the century, McLaren is selling up shop to Audi. But it was fake news. How can that be? How can Autocar, the world’s oldest, trusted car magazine get it so wrong? Autocar, who have the finest writing talent at their disposal. Autocar, a publication that has the car industry laying out the red carpet for it, the red table, champagne, booze and more free SEAT booze. Autocar, for one day at least became the purveyor of fake news, they told the world without any hard evidence that McLaren was all but sold to Audi. How did they get it so wrong?

Why did Autocar publish the McLarengate story? All you had to do was look at the evidence… and… when you did, there was no evidence. I’ve been laughing my arse off all week. I haven’t but if could imagine it, I would. I can’t at the moment because I have just had plastic surgery, I mean corrective eye surgery. The doctor warned me if I attempt to laugh I might need liposuction. HA!

Anyway, the evidence. There was no evidence in the lead-up to the Autocar story, but they did cite a source. More like they had tomato sauce with their full English breakfast that morning and thought it was the fake news gods speaking from above. Autocar is so respected and so trusted that the McLarengate story will be brushed under the carpet and forgotten about. That’s established media for you. HA!

Autocar isn’t a purveyor of fake news, they are far too serious and far too bland to divulge in such activities. But the McLarengate story was a bit gutter journalism, as though Autocar let their hair down, lit up a spliff, and blasted heavy metal from the ghetto blaster at full volume. And then put a hoodie on to make themselves look normal again.Brexit Jeremiah Clarkson on the Nissan shit storm, dailycarblog.com
