Which would you choose, a 1970s widebody Mustang Mach 1 or a 2023 widebody Mustang Mach E. Some say the Mustang Mach E is anathema to its Yankee doodle, chain-smoking Mustang ownership class heritage. Others say the Mustang Mach E is nothing more than badge-engineering by a group of bored marketing professionals. Whatever your opinion, if you had to choose between a vintage widebody Mustang Mach 1 or the modern pure electric widebody Mustang Mach E, which would you choose?

Turns out you can’t choose either one, because both are CGI renders. That is to say that the Mach 1 and Mach E live within the memory banks of a computer, digital recreations from the memory banks of human imagination. The Ford Mustang Mach 1 existed between 1971-1973 and was powered by a honkey-tonk V8 engine.

The Mustang Mach E is a pure electric compact crossover with a power output of between 266bhp and 480bhp, depending on model spec. In comparison, the old school Mustang Mach 1 had a maximum power out of 240bhp and 375bhp and 610NM of torque, depending on model spec. Not bad for its day.

Rostislav Prokop, the digital artist behind these computer renders, has a hit on his hands. After all, widebody-ing an old classic such as the Mustang Mach 1 reminds us of the past and emboldens the heritage, giving all of us a memory-lane history lesson.

But which one would you choose? We don’t have a comments section so we’ll never know.
