The “this” is the BMW XM Label Red, more floating barge than SUV. If you’ve seen one on the road, you instantly think how did BMW get away with that/this? The this is that and the that is this, but this is it, it is what it is. The Lable Red denotes the this is a performance variant of the “that” BMW XM.
In the UK, the XM retails from £150K. The XM Label Red is powered by a 4.4-litre twin-turbo petrol engine and electric motor. Combined the total system output yields 748bhp and 1,000 Nm (737 lb-ft), with power delivered to all four wheels via BMW’s M xDrive all-wheel-drive system.
The electric motor draws its energy from a 25.7 kWh lithium-ion battery integrated into the underbody area and is good for around 30 miles of pure electric range. The AC charging rate of up to 7.4 kW will replenish the battery from zero to 100 percent charge in 4.25 hours.
Only 500 units will be sold worldwide, with around 50 coming to the UK. Standard equipment levels will be high, after all the BMW XM Label Red will retail from £170,000. But the styling isn’t free, it’s an acquired taste as demonstrated by the red exterior and interior accents seen in these official press images.
You’ve got to give some credit to BMW, they do like to push design to its limits.
