The Geely Boyue Cool may sound like an unusual brand name for a compact SUV, but the price tag of $14,800 USD is real. The China only SUV is powered by a 1.5-liter turbo 4-cylinder engine as used in the Geely Binyue. The engine produces 181hp and 290N·m. It is available with 6-speed manual, 6-speed auto or 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. A future PHEV variant is in the pipeline.
The Geely Boyue Cool is a compact SUV aimed at the younger target audience. It does the compact SUV thing, it’s big enough for a family of four, has 571L of boot space and comes in a range of colors, trims, and price derivatives. The interior is equipped with a 10.25inch digital infotainment tablet and the driver gets a 13.2-inch driver display.
Standard safety and autonomous equipment include level 2 driving assistance, intelligent cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and voice command. It will even have facial recognition as a means to start the engine, how cool is that? Or how Orwellian is that?
The nearest European comparison we can think of is the Peugeot 2008 which starts at £25K here in the UK. Without trade and import tariffs, the Boyue Cool would cost an equivalent of £11K. So if you want a sub £11K fully loaded entry-level SUV that is closer in size to a BMW X3 and every bit of a match for the Europeans, you’re better off moving to China.
