BYD To Rebrand YangWang U8 To Appeal To European Sensibilities

BYD, the Chinese electric car manufacturer, is exploring the European SUV market, aiming to rival established models like the Mercedes G-Class, and Land Rover Defender. BYD Executives, addressing a recent press presentation in Shenzhen, hinted at plans to export the Yangwang U8 and Fang Cheng Bao 5 to Europe. The U8, a full-size luxury SUV, is slated to make its debut at the Geneva Auto Show in February.

Priced at approximately 140,000 euros ($152,000) in China, this vehicle is equipped with an electric drivetrain featuring a 49-kilowatt-hour battery and a range-extender gasoline engine, boasting an impressive 1,000 km range.

Enhanced by individual electric motors for each wheel, the U8 exhibits remarkable off-road capabilities, enabling it to pivot like a tank and rotate, crawl and slide into tight parking spaces. BYD asserts that the vehicle, despite its hefty 3.5-tonne curb weight, is so well-sealed that it can float in water for half an hour.

Additionally, BYD has announced that its Denza brand is set to debut in Europe in the fourth quarter. it is anticipated that YangWang and Fang Cheng Bao brands are expected to be rebranded as Denza o better suit an international market.
