Based on preliminary data gathered by automotive industry analysts, it is projected that the Tesla Model Y will be the best-selling car in Europe by 2023, leaving its closest competitor, the Dacia Sandero, behind in its EV wake. The Model Y managed to sell 254,822 units in 2023, compared to the Sandero’s 235,893 units. These numbers account for 97% of sales across the European Union, EFTA countries, and the UK. Furthermore, Model Y sales have increased by over 80% in the last year alone.

At the beginning of 2023, Tesla significantly reduced the prices of its Model Y, which led to a surge in sales. This trend has continued throughout the year. Moreover, the company also benefited from incentives offered for company cars in Germany last year.

As a result, the Model Y emerged as the best-selling battery-electric car in Germany, with about 45,800 registrations, according to industry analysts. The Model Y was the best-selling car in Europe for seven out of twelve months in the year 2023.

In 2023, the VW Golf is expected to drop to seventh place in sales, down from the top spot in 2021. Despite a 24% drop in sales to 24,394 units, the Model Y was on track to become the best-selling car in Europe for December.
