The Red Bull Formula One team has expanded beyond the race track with the launch of their RRB17 hypercar, while firmly maintaining their presence on the circuit. Designed by Adrian Newey, the greatest F1 design engineer of all time with 12 constructor titles to his credit, the RB17 represents a distilled accumulation of race car knowledge. This track-only hypercar will see only 50 units ever produced, each commanding a price tag of £6 million GBP.
Adrian Newey envisioned the RB17 as a direct descendant of a Formula One car, masquerading as a Le Mans endurance racer. Weighing in at 900kg, the RB17 is constructed entirely of carbon fiber, save for the engine; even the gearbox is crafted from this advanced material.

The standout feature is its naturally aspirated 4.5-liter V10 engine, developed in collaboration with Cosworth, capable of producing 1,200 bhp and revving up to 15,000 rpm—performance levels on par with Formula One standards. The six-speed carbon fiber gearbox includes an electric motor generating an additional 200 bhp.

Newey’s design philosophy focuses on maximizing aerodynamic downforce, with the RB17 generating over 1,200kg of downforce. The car boasts pushrod suspension with active control over ride height, body roll, and mechanical balance, adaptable to diverse driving styles as Newey intended.

Further enhancing its performance are adjustable dampers, a lift mode for traversing bumps, carbon-carbon brakes akin to those on the Bugatti Bolide, ABS, and multiple modes catering to different skill levels and track types.

Red Bull are boasting that the RB17 is capable of lapping as quick if not quicker than a current generation F1 car. The RB17 is Adrian Newey’s parting gift to Red Bull after spending nearly 20 years with the F1 squad, and it truly stands as a remarkable gift.
