Emboldened MG To Build New Manufacturing Plant In Mexico
Industry News

MG Motor is set to expand its global footprint with the construction of a manufacturing plant and research and development center in Mexico. The move, announced on August 7th, aims to bolster the carmaker’s presence in Latin America.

According to MG Mexico President Zhang Wei, the Mexican facility will not only produce vehicles but also serve as a hub for generating market intelligence tailored to the region.

While the company has yet to disclose investment figures or a construction timeline, it’s clear that Mexico is a strategic location for MG’s growth plans.

The expansion into Mexico aligns with MG’s broader global strategy. MG, with over 127,000 units sold in the first half of 2024 across Europe, is now targeting Latin America.

The Mexican plant is expected to serve as a cornerstone for MG’s expansion in the region and the wider Caribbean.

This move positions MG alongside other electric vehicle manufacturers such as BYD and Tesla, who have expressed interest in establishing a presence in Mexico. However, the Mexican automotive landscape is complex.
