The news that Volkswagen can not be bothered to meet EU Emissions regulations should come as no surprise to any one. After all, this is a company that committed 25 years to deceiving EU emissions regulators. Now instead of committing to a secretive plot to avoid emissions regulations Volkswagen is simply saying it has no desire to do so.
OK, so the opening monologue is slightly misleading, but the narrative that Volkswagen cannot be bothered to meet EU emissions laws is historically accurate. But it’s all about language using terminology that isn’t as blunt as that used in the opening paragraph.
The reason why German’s are highly educated is that when they reach big industry they learn how to use coded terminology. in this case VW Chairman Hans Dieter Putsch used the term “adpated to reality” instead of saying what he really meant which is… ‘I can’t be bothered’.
Potsch wants the EU to reassess its emissions targets and offer more certainty to the automotive industry as it contemplates job losses and unprecedented plant closures in Germany.
