Bentley has announced its first fully electric “luxury urban” SUV, set to launch in 2027. Targeted at attracting new customers to the Bentley brand, this luxury electric vehicle (EV) marks a significant shift in Bentley’s electrification strategy. Originally aiming for an all-electric lineup by 2030, Bentley has now delayed this goal to 2035 due to slower EV adoption across the industry.
The upcoming electric Bentley SUV will feature a long-range battery and fast-charging capabilities, potentially utilizing Volkswagen Group’s PPE platform, which also underpins the Porsche Macan EV and Audi Q6 e-tron.
This electric SUV will join Bentley’s current lineup, including the Bentayga SUV, Continental GT, and Flying Spur, competing against other high-end electric vehicles like the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, Lotus Eletre, and Porsche K1.
Bentley’s revised electrification plan includes launching one new EV or plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model per year over the next decade, aiming to fully phase out PHEVs by 2035.
CEO Frank-Steffen Walliser expressed optimism for future luxury EV demand, aligning the brand’s high-performance electric cars with consumer expectations for sustainable luxury.
