Suzuki has decided the future is electric—and rather than tiptoe in, it’s kicked the door down with the e VITARA, its first fully electric car. It’s landed in Ireland with deliveries starting in May, and comes with a choice of 49kWh or 61kWh batteries, plus—wait for it—an actual proper four-wheel-drive system. In an EV. From Suzuki.
Prices start at a fairly sensible €32,995 (thanks to grants), rising to just under €43k for a fully loaded, dual-motor ALLGRIP-e version. Not exactly loose change, but not “sell a kidney” money either.
Underneath, there’s a brand-new EV platform, a heat pump for efficiency, and enough tech to keep even the most gadget-obsessed driver happy. Suzuki reckons it’ll be nimble too—though we suspect that claim will be tested the moment someone finds a damp B-road.
Charging? About 45 minutes to 80% on a rapid charger, or several hours at home while you question your life choices and electricity tariff.
The interesting bit, though, is that Suzuki thinks this thing will make up a quarter of its Irish sales. Which is bold. Very bold. Especially for a brand better known for plucky little runabouts than cutting-edge EVs.
Still, if you’ve ever wanted a compact electric SUV with actual off-road credentials—and a Suzuki badge—this might just be it. Just don’t expect it to drift like a hot hatch… unless you’re feeling particularly brave.
