Bentley’s Latest Customisation Options Are Delightfully Absurd
Auto News

Bentley customers, it seems, have finally decided that choosing between “dark blue” and “slightly darker blue” simply isn’t enough anymore.

More than 70 per cent are now diving headfirst into Mulliner — Bentley’s bespoke division — where the possibilities range from subtle embroidered initials to full-blown rolling aristocratic fever dreams.

And now things have become even more extravagant.

Mulliner’s latest obsession is something called “Ombré” paintwork. Essentially, two colours melt into each other across the bodywork in a finish so painstakingly complex it takes two technicians 56 hours to complete.

That’s longer than it takes some modern EV startups to develop an entire car. Originally offered in three colour combinations, Bentley has now expanded the palette to eight, because apparently there are people who wake up wanting their luxury coupe to fade gracefully from Alpine Green into Verdant.

Inside, the madness continues. The dashboard veneers can now mirror the exterior gradient finishes, creating a sort of luxury colour-flow effect that says, “Yes, I own a yacht, and yes, the yacht has mood lighting.”

Then there are the new racing stripes. Because even if your Bentley weighs about the same as a medieval siege engine, a stripe instantly adds at least 15 imaginary horsepower.

Mulliner has also introduced new metal interior finishes, laser-etched custom motifs, bespoke welcome-light animations, and enough trim options to make a Rolls-Royce configurator look restrained.

The point is this: Bentley no longer sells cars so much as wearable statements for billionaires. And Mulliner exists to ensure that no two of those statements ever look remotely alike.
