The world is now just days away from seeing the first fully electric Ferrari: the Luce. Yes, Ferrari — the company that built its reputation on screaming V12s and enough mechanical drama to wake entire villages — is finally plugging itself into the future.
And naturally, it’s being incredibly secretive about it.
Normally, by this stage of development, carmakers start peeling away camouflage so everyone can get a better look before launch day. Ferrari, however, appears to have wrapped the Luce in what looks like a padded wardrobe and sent it out onto the streets of Maranello anyway.
Earlier prototypes hid beneath borrowed Maserati Levante bodywork, but this latest test mule somehow looks even stranger — less sleek Italian supercar, more mysterious electric appliance on wheels.
Still, a few clues have escaped the camouflage net. There appear to be slim horizontal DRLs at the front, while the rear doors may open backwards like those on the Ferrari Purosangue. Which means Ferrari’s first EV could arrive with a touch of Rolls-Royce-style theatre.
Inside, things reportedly get even more dramatic. The cabin has supposedly been shaped by Jony Ive and his LoveFrom team, meaning there should be plenty of minimalist tech wizardry mixed with old-school Ferrari flair. There’s even said to be a fighter-jet-inspired launch-control toggle mounted in the roof because apparently pressing a normal button just isn’t exciting enough anymore.
Then comes the important bit: the numbers. The Luce is expected to pack a massive 122 kWh battery with 350 kW charging capability and enough stored electricity for around 329 miles of range. More importantly, four electric motors are tipped to produce a combined 986bhp.
So yes, Ferrari’s first EV may be silent. But subtle? Absolutely not.
