Dodge has apparently decided that if the Charger can’t bring back the V8, it can at least bring back the sort of behaviour that gets you banned from polite society.

Meet the Charger Super Bee, packing a 600-hp twin-turbo 3.0-litre straight-six, because apparently six cylinders are now enough to frighten the neighbours.

With 531 lb-ft of torque, bigger Garrett turbos and upgraded cooling, Dodge claims an 11.8-second quarter mile — quicker than one of the old supercharged V8 Hellcats.

And unlike the previous Charger, this one has apparently discovered corners. There are enormous 16-inch brakes, six-piston front calipers, adaptive dampers, uprated springs and 305-section Goodyear rubber wrapped around 20-inch wheels. It’s still about as subtle as a linebacker in a nightclub, but at least it should stop before the nightclub.

The clever bit is a button on the steering wheel that switches from all-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive. Press it and you can transform perfectly respectable tyres into expensive smoke.

Production will be limited, colours will be black and yellow, and pricing hasn’t been announced. But with the lesser Charger Scat Pack already costing more than $56,990, this won’t exactly be bargain-bin horsepower.

Still, after losing the V8, Dodge desperately needed some attitude.

The Super Bee has arrived carrying 600 horsepower, four-wheel drive and absolutely no intention of behaving itself.
