There isn’t much news today, and we would normally avoid speculative coverage. But because there isn’t much news today, we’re going to make an exception and engage in some speculative coverage.

The Aston Martin Valhalla is reportedly going to get a Spider version by the end of 2026. It’s hardly surprising, considering this was planned into the original product development lifecycle, so don’t be surprised to see one appear on the Aston Martin website in the not-too-distant future.

But this is what we know.

Aston Martin may soon take its already outrageous Valhalla and do what manufacturers have been doing to sports cars for decades: remove the roof and make everything considerably more dramatic.

The Valhalla Spider is reportedly being considered as an open-air companion to the mid-engined hybrid supercar, which is limited to 999 examples worldwide. However, Aston Martin has not officially confirmed the Spider, and reports of a specific reveal date remain unverified.

According to industry rumours, the car could use a removable targa-style roof panel rather than a conventional folding soft-top. If true, that would preserve much of the Valhalla’s exotic character while giving occupants considerably more sky.

The confirmed Valhalla coupe is powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged Mercedes-AMG V8 combined with a plug-in hybrid system, producing more than 1,000bhp. It also features a carbon-fibre monocoque, aluminium subframes, pushrod front suspension and a five-link rear setup.

The big engineering headache will be weight. The coupe has a dry-weight target of around 3,649lb, and adding structural reinforcement and roof hardware could push the Spider higher.

Still, if Aston Martin does build it, the recipe sounds wonderfully simple: a thousand-plus horsepower, a mid-mounted V8, electric assistance and no roof.
