Subaru is making its 2027 Outback more affordable, introducing a new entry-level model priced from $34,540 in the US. That represents a $2,000 reduction compared with the cheapest version of last year’s range, while prices across the lineup fall by around $1,000 on average.

Despite its lower starting price, the base Outback comes equipped with a 12.1-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument display and Subaru’s EyeSight driver-assistance technology.

Power comes from a 2.5-litre boxer engine producing 180bhp, paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and standard all-wheel drive.

Turbocharged power for higher trims

The Outback Limited starts at $41,540, while the Touring costs $45,040 and adds leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, and more advanced driver assistance features.

For those wanting more performance, the Limited XT and Touring XT use a turbocharged 2.4-litre four-cylinder boxer engine delivering 260bhp and 277lb-ft of torque. The Touring XT tops the range at $48,140.

Meanwhile, the adventure-focused Outback Wilderness also starts at $45,040. It features increased ground clearance, durable upholstery, adaptive dampers, 17-inch wheels and all-terrain tyres, alongside enhanced X-Mode settings for challenging surfaces.

Optional packages add features including a power sunroof, surround-view camera system, premium Nappa leather and additional hands-free highway driving assistance.

The 2027 Subaru Outback is expected to reach US dealerships later this year, with production taking place in Japan. The revised pricing and improved standard equipment aim to make Subaru’s popular all-wheel-drive estate-style SUV more accessible to buyers.
